Google has once again been caught having some fun on its main webpage. The company has replaced its familiar logo on the Google.com site with an animated sequence that celebrates the 46th anniversary of the first Star Trek TV episode that was aired on CBS. Yes, we know: The actual anniversary date is tomorrow, September 8th. However, it is actually that day in other parts of the world at the moment so Google decided to go ahead and post the Trek doodle up for all of its global territories.
As you can see, the Google logo letters have been placed on the bridge of the original Enterprise and made up to look vaguely like the TV show's main characters. There are a number of clickable elements in the logo that do various things, but we won't spoil them for you here.
Entertainment Weekly chatted with one of the creators of the Star Trek Google doodle, Ryan Germick, who said this project has been in the works for quite a while. He states, "We had drawings and ideas for the past couple of years. We started putting it together in earnest three or four months back."
