'Apartheid still very alive in South Africa'

Every stone and rock here bears testimony to the frustration which resides in this community. Made up mainly of farm-workers, the town has been at the center of a strike action in which people are demanding a living wage. The workers earn just under $10 a day; after deductions, that amount can be as low as $4. After working a 16-hour-shift Monday to Friday, the workers say their demand is for a minimum of $20 a day. This reality is symptomatic of South Africa's past. Unions tell us Apartheid is still very much alive on the farms and many workers are subject to abuse; in some instances even being forced to sleep in horse's stables. The strike action here has not always been peaceful. While Press TV was on the ground police were going house-to-house arresting and intimidating farmworkers.
